MTAQ: ERA Amendment Reduces Fees for Automotive Recyclers

The Motor Trades Association of Queensland (MTA Queensland) applauds the decision of the Department of Environment and Science on behalf of the automotive parts recyclers of Queensland, which will see a reduction in annual fees.

Following comprehensive engagements with the Department, last week changes were announced that stemmed from a review of the environmental risks associated with automotive recycling activities.

The Department now considers that activities undertaken by automotive recyclers be regulated by a different ERA categorisation, which results in a reduced fee.

Specifically, the Department now considers the activities are to be regulated as ERA 62 1(a) instead of ERA 62 1 (b).

Rod Camm, Group Chief Executive for MTA Queensland said, “This is a big result based on our constant representation of our members’ concerns.

Businesses in the automotive recycling sector will now be over $2,000 better off each year and the impact of their activities has been correctly categorised.”
