Important Coronavirus (COVID-19) April Update for MTA Members

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is having a big impact on businesses in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

While there have been no confirmed cases at the MTA, in the interests of preventing the spread of the Coronavirus we have suspended all MTA Zone and Divisional meetings and membership visits until the end of April this year.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) FAQ

Membership:
The MTA will continue to operate with a few key differences until further notice:

  • MTA staff will be phoning businesses (replacing face to face visits) to discuss how you are managing in the present environment and offering help wherever we can.
  • MTA WR staff remain readily contactable to assist you with any issues you may face.
  • Online / webinar solutions for those who have registered in WR courses prior to the end of April will be made available. You can still register for these WR courses by visiting https://www.mtaofsa.com.au/events and those who have already registered will be contacted about how they can attend via webinar.
  • Both Emergency Warden training (18th of March) and Test and Tag training (8th of April), have been postponed until further notice.

If any members have further queries please contact the Workplace Relations department on 8291 2000 or via email on wr@mtasant.com.au.

Please see below links to some useful information for employers:

Hosts and Employers:

  • We will be minimising face to face workplace visits for the foreseeable future. This includes Field Officers (your key
point of contact for apprentice and training related issues).
  • 8 week apprentice visits and apprentice performance meetings will be carried out via telephone and teleconference.
  • MTA Administration staff will continue to be available to answer your queries as they arise.
  • Should you have any issues regarding the employment of your apprentices, please email: jpolgreen@mtasant.com.au.

Apprentices in training:

  • At attendance of training, all students will be asked a series of questions:
    • Do you have any flu like symptoms e.g. fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue and shortness of breath?
    • Have you recently returned from overseas travel and self isolated for 14 days as per government requirements?
    • Have you been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
  • This provides an opportunity to direct anyone with potential virus concerns to seek medical help and not attend training until medical clearance is determined.

Together with the above we have the following in place:

  • social exclusion zones
  • hand washing practices
  • extra hand sanitiser stations
  • signage on hygiene practices

Of course there are many developments on a daily basis, and our management practices will continue to develop to meet the changing conditions. Should you have any issues with your training, please email tbuckley@mtasant.com.au.
